The War Office,

Whitehall,

S.W. 1.

8th May,

1928.

The Director of Military Operations and

Intelligence presents his compliments to the Under

Secretary of State for the Colonies and would be glad

if he could be supplied with detailed information to enable him to locate the boundary of the Hong Kong

Leased Territories at its Western extremity.

The information possessed at present states that "the boundary follows the North bank of the Sham Chun

river to Deep Bay", and it is shown on existing maps as following the Northern edge of a mangrove swamp

into which this river flows.

This mangrove swamp, however, has now been

reclaimed and contains villages and cultivation

and the river flows down its main channel.

The point in doubt is whether the boundary

should continue to be shown as following the Northern

edge of the swamp, or whether it should follow

the North Bank of the main stream.
